I Tried a Thread Lift Instead of Filler at 57 — Here’s What Happened
Based on a patient’s experience. Some details have been adjusted for privacy.
A couple of years ago, I started wondering if a facelift was in my future.
I wasn’t unhappy with how I looked. But I was starting to notice changes that skincare, Botox, and clean eating just weren’t helping with anymore. My face felt heavier, especially in the lower half. I’ve always had chubbier cheeks, and over time, it felt like they were pulling everything down. I’d catch my reflection and think, when did this happen?
I had friends who loved filler, but I wasn’t sure it made sense for me. I already have volume in my face and I wasn’t looking to add more. What I wanted was lift — and if it came with a bit of that glow I had in my thirties, even better. One can only hope.
That’s what led me to Dr. Mark Godley’s clinic in Vancouver and Abbotsford.
During our consultation, I explained how I felt: I didn’t want the youthful-but-overfilled look popularized by the Kardashians. He mentioned thread lifts, and I was intrigued. I knew the basics (that threads could physically lift the skin and underlying tissue) but I didn’t know much beyond that. He explained how the threads are placed just under the skin, lifting and repositioning the tissue without adding bulk. Over time, they also encourage collagen production. No volume. No scalpel or cutting. Just a little help putting things back where they used to be.
That sounded exactly like what I was looking for.
The procedure was surprisingly easy. A little numbing, a bit of pressure here and there — not painful, just strange. I remember sitting up and looking in the mirror, and I could already see the difference. My cheeks still looked like my cheeks, but they were sitting higher. My jawline looked cleaner. It was subtle but undeniable.
In the days that followed, that initial tightness faded into something softer and more natural. I didn’t look “done.” I just looked like I’d had a full night’s rest and a really good week. It’s been a few months now, and the results have settled in beautifully. I still do Botox for certain areas, but threads gave me something that I hadn’t been able to achieve with injectables alone.
At 57, I’m not trying to turn back time. I just want to feel confident in the skin I’m in.
